"LUV wanders around towns and forests with a skateboard, flowers and a dog in his arms. LUV walks wherever he goes, holding the objects and things he loves and cherishes the most close to heart. Whether it is walking through the forest to meet someone or sitting curled up in a little ball and thinking about someone. LUV expresses a shared sentiment that there is always someone or something important beyond our thoughts." - LY

LY's unique world created with black, white and various shades of gray.
Printed individually by hand, each ukiyo-e displays the vivid colors that are blended by the printer and are a unique feature of woodcut prints.
Wide variety of the shades of gray which unique to LY is reproduced by materials of woodcut printing and techniques.
The ukiyo-e is printed on Echizen kizuki hosho washi (a unique kind of Japanese paper) handmade from 100% paper-mulberry fibers by Ichibei Iwano, a living national treasure.
The carver discerns the intentions of LY, the painter, and carves out her smooth curved lines. Carving delicate lines with a single knife demands the highest concentration and precision from the carver.
The colors of traditional woodcut prints are produced by using a Baren rubbing pad to rub water-based paints into the fibers of the paper, which is carefully handcrafted from paper mulberry. The printer feels the world view of Ms. LY's work as he mixes and prints the colors on top of one another.
Born in Tokyo, LY uses more than 30 different shades of grey to depict various cityscapes based on the previous places she has visited and imagined landscapes from her childhood. A monster wandering in these landscapes is LUV which is a reflection of the artist's own thoughts and feelings.
