The Ukiyo-e is printed on Echizen kizuki hosho washi (a unique kind of Japanese paper) handmade by Ichibei Iwano, a living national treasure. This makes the vivid colors and the soft, warm textures of woodcut prints come to life.
The expression of the woman in this picture, with her cheek resting on her hand and eyes half closed, is full of amatory charm. She is evidently suffering the anguish of unappeased passion. Note the delicate depiction of the hand held tenderly against her cheek and the enticing expression. The simple coloring -grey and light purple clothing , and a little red on her lips and cheeks-fits perfectly against the background in pink mica.
