The Ukiyo-e is printed on Echizen kizuki hosho washi (a unique kind of Japanese paper) handmade by Ichibei Iwano, a living national treasure. This makes the vivid colors and the soft, warm textures of woodcut prints come to life.
This print consists of a gently sloping mountainside in the foreground white clouds rising from the gorge in the centerground, and the soaring peak of Mt. Fuji in the background. The figures and horses are depicted in exceptionally small dimensions, which serves to enhance the magnificence of nature.
